MILWAUKEE – The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit in the Wisconsin Supreme Court today seeking the release of elderly and vulnerable people from state prisons in order to avoid a dangerous outbreak that would further strain the state’s health care capacity.

MILWAUKEE - Chris Ott, the executive director of the ACLU of Wisconsin, issued the following statement regarding today’s decision to delay in-person voting in the April 7th election:

MILWAUKEE – The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin and a coalition of voting rights advocates today filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Election Commission to demand that all jurisdictions that have canceled early in-person voting promptly restore in-person absentee voting.

On April 7th, voters will be asked to amend the state constitution to enact “Marsy’s Law,” a sweeping measure that purports to protect victims’ rights – but in fact threatens the civil liberties of all Wisconsinites.

MADISON – The ACLU of Wisconsin today commended Governor Tony Evers on his decision to veto a package of bills that would have exacerbated mass incarceration, diminished public safety, forced the construction of new state prisons, and cost billions in taxpayer dollars.
