A stipulation of Act 12, the newly signed shared revenue law which provides Milwaukee with much-needed funding, curtails Milwaukee city and county diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in hiring and awarding contracts. Black Wisconsin Legislator Rep. Kalan Haywood said, “Diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts exist to equalize and remedy that past as we move into the future… There is strength in diversity, and we must invest in and foster that strength.”
