The ACLU of Wisconsin voiced its support for a lawsuit filed today challenging the constitutionality of Wisconsin's undemocratic and highly partisan legislative maps.

Dr. Melinda Brennan, the executive director of the ACLU of Wisconsin, said the following:

“Extreme partisan gerrymandering has turned Wisconsin’s redistricting process into a political tool used to manipulate the outcome of elections. Redistricting aims to ensure maps accurately represent our communities, reflecting population changes and racial diversity. Still, in Wisconsin, the process continues to be hijacked by politicians who use it to maintain power. We support this lawsuit in hopes that the Wisconsin Supreme Court will ultimately provide a pathway for the people of Wisconsin to get the fair maps they deserve.

Voters should pick their politicians, not the other way around.  But for too long in Wisconsin, politicians have chosen their voters.  That can stop with this lawsuit so that we have a democracy that works for all of us."
