Accurate Birth Certificates for Trans and Intersex Wisconsinites

The ACLU of Wisconsin, along with pro bono counsel from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, filed a lawsuit against Governor Tony Evers and the Department of Health Services, on behalf of Trans Law Help Wisconsin and a transgender Wisconsin woman, seeking to overturn a provision in state law that denies transgender people the right to change the sex markers on their birth certificates unless they first undergo a “surgical sex procedure.”

The ACLU of Wisconsin filed a brief at the Western District of Wisconsin concerning a case in which a parent-led organization, New Richmond Parents for Strong Schools, are trying to push the New Richmond School District (NRSD) to adopt a policy that would force transgender students to use bathrooms that are not consistent with their gender identities.
