The shackling of pregnant incarcerated people is inhumane. Although widely regarded as an assault on human dignity as well as an unsafe medical
practice, women in jails and prisons are still
routinely shackled during pregnancy and
childbirth.

This bill limits the use of physical restraints on pregnant and certain postpartum people who are in the custody of a jail or correctional facility. Wisconsin must join the 40 other states and Washington D.C. that have passed legislation restricting the use of restraints.
