In light of the facial recognition item on this evening’s Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission agenda and the Common Council’s recent approval of the Milwaukee Police Department's use of surveillance drones, the ACLU of Wisconsin wrote an open letter to the Common Council calling for a two-year pause on the adoption of any new surveillance technology, especially facial recognition.
We also call for the development and passage of a framework to regulate existing surveillance technology with meaningful opportunities for community input. A copy of the letter is attached.
