Performance: Clarence Darrow comes to Oshkosh

March 22, 2010 @ 6:30 am

Famous ACLU attorney, Clarence Darrow, comes to life in this in-character performance by Dr. Peter Baker. Baker will tell Darrow’s story of the attorney’s work to defend civil liberties in the historic ACLU case of the Scopes “Monkey Trial” featured in the film “Inherit the Wind.” Darrow also defended three strike leaders of the 1898 Oskhosh woodworkers’ strike, the McNamara brothers, California union leaders and Leopold and Loeb. Dr. Baker is a retired pediatrician now living near Omro and has been performing as Darrow for fifteen years in Illinois and Wisconsin. The event is being sponsored by the ACLU of Wisconsin Fox Valley chapter. For more information contact John Allen at (920) 303-0660 or Dr. Martin Gruberg at (920) 235-9822.
