Conference: Youth Social Justice Forum

November 6, 2009 @ 6:15 am

For a review and photos of the 2009 Forum, please visit our post on the Cap City Liberty blog. The Youth Social Justice Forum is an annual day of learning and social justice the engagement for students in the greater Milwaukee area. The Forum is a unique approach to teaching about the functions of government, civil liberties and how individuals can make effective grassroots change by using realistic role-play, hands-on workshops and hot topics from local to international levels that directly affect young people. Students participate in a mock election using actual voting machines supplied by the City of Milwaukee Election Commission. In 2009, the election debate topic focused on the timely issue of Mayoral control of MPS. Community leaders with a wealth of professional experience were on hand to guide high school participants through the activities and workshops.
