Students with disabilities–nationwide and in Wisconsin–are more likely to experience exclusionary discipline than their non-disabled peers.

This bill would make it easier for teachers to take students out of classrooms if the teacher says the student’s behavior is disruptive, including being “boisterous” or “unreasonably loud,” creating new avenues for excluding students with disabilities by creating new powers to eject a student from the classroom. It is unclear how the provisions of the bill would interact with protections for students with disabilities under the federal Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
