This proposed constitutional amendment would guarantee that the state and local governments must treat everyone equally under the law – regardless of sex, gender identity, race, color, sexual orientation, disability, religion, national origin, marital status, family status, age, ancestry, or any other characteristic that a person cannot change.
It also gives people the right to sue the state or the local government if their equality rights under this amendment are violated. Because it’s a constitutional amendment, it must be passed by two successive legislative sessions and then approved by voters before it can take effect.
