A Brokaw woman who sued the state over its controversial voter identification law has won in federal court, but the fight is not likely over.
Ruthelle Frank, a longtime elected official in the village of Brokaw, did not have a valid birth certificate when the law took effect so was not legally allowed to vote. She and other plaintiffs represented by the American Civil Liberties Union joined the League of United Latin American Citizens in suing Republican Gov. Scott Walker to overturn the law.
U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman said in his Tuesday decision that the 2011 law requiring voters to show a state-issued photo ID at the polls unfairly burdens poor and minority voters.
