ACLU Statement on Independent Consultant's Report on 2018 Stop & Frisk Settlement Agreement

On September 23, 2019, the first annual report of the Consultant in the case of Collins v. City of Milwaukee – the “Stop and Frisk”case – was released.  The ACLU of Wisconsin had the following comment:

Waukesha County only county in Wisconsin whose deputies are being trained to partner with ICE

Waukesha County is the only county in Wisconsin whose deputies are being trained to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  We have another chance to try to end that effort.  The “287(g) agreement” between the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department and ICE expires on June 30, 2019, unless both the Sheriff’s Department and ICE agree to extend it. The county should decline to renew that agreement.

ACLU of Wisconsin statement on transitions in Milwaukee Fire & Police Commission

The City of Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission (FPC) is undergoing a significant transition due to the recent announcements that FPC Chair Marisabel Cabrera and FPC Executive Director LaKeisha Butler are leaving their positions. Milwaukee’s elected officials will play a critical role in ensuring that the processes for selecting their replacements are transparent and include community involvement.
