CROWN stands for "Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair."

Failed to pass both houses, will not become law this session

The CROWN Act, which stands for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair," is a bill that prohibits race-based hair discrimination in employment, housing, education, service as a juror, adoption, and the equal enjoyment of a public place of accommodation or amusement.

The denial of employment, housing, educational and other opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locs, and twists remains a source of racial injustice with serious consequences. The CROWN Act corrects these racial injustices by making hair discrimination illegal.
