Brian Thompson joined the ACLU of Wisconsin Board of Directors in 2016. Mr. Thompson is a retired arts and government administrator. As one of the first openly gay indiviuduals to be appointed to a position in the White House, Brian has long been a believer in the power of good and effective government.

In 1981, Brian was represented by the ACLU in challenging the CIA's authority to dismiss employees for being openly gay.

He came to the ACLU in part because of his concerns about the erosion of established norms and institutions within government. Brian is also a fierce supporter of the fight for LGBTQ rights and hopes to address recent setbacks that have slowed progress.
