Bios

Angelica Atterbury

Angel is a senior at Juneau High School . In her school, she is the captain of the cheerleading team, part of the yearbook Committee, Student Announcements, and president of the youth advisory board at the social development committee. Outside of school she works for the Youth Advisory Board and takes part of the coordination of the summer peace event. In her spare time she enjoys to read and write poetry. Her future plans include to become a General Practitioner, part-time journalist and to change the world.

Lauran Bowe Slagle

Lauran is a junior at Milwaukee High School of the Arts where she is the co-captain of the swim team and a shot putt/discuss thrower for the track team. She is also a member of the Student Activism and Empowerment Club and a Visual Art major. Lauran is a graduate of Camp "Everytown", a volunteer of the Artist Working in Education. In her free time she enjoys swimming, reading, listening to music and painting.

Alejandra Briones (Advisor)

Alejandra is currently a junior at Milwaukee Lutheran High School . She was a facilitator in 2003-04 and has stayed in touch with the tour since. Some of her extracurricular activities involve concert choir, cheerleading and folkloric Mexican dance group. Alejandra enjoys spending her time with friends, dancing, and listening to music.

Inez Clay

Inez is a junior at Riverside University High School and was a participant of the tour last year. She is on the varsity cheerleading team, track team and the NIA club. Other extra-curricular activities within her school include, the musical Scrooge and the swing choir. On her free time she loves to eat but because she is in track she can't do it as much. She loves to be on paxed (Hamp_Gurl_08), go to the movies, and talk on the phone. She enjoys to singing, acting, dancing, writing and reading poetry.

Julian D. Curlin

Julian is a senior attending Milwaukee Vincent High School . Within his school he is involved in band, the Student Council and is the AP Vice President. Outside of school he is involved with the Gorilla Promotions Intl. Youth Leadership Circle and graduate of Camp "Everytown." Julian enjoys playing and listening music, working on the computer and playing sports.

Josh DelColle

Josh is a junior at Marquette University High School . He is involved at the Progressive Club and Students for Social Responsibility. Josh enjoys music, art, traveling, reading, biking and skateboarding. Josh is a great activist and part of his free time is spent on promoting bands of his friends and underground music.

Sana Eshai (Advisor)

Sana is currently a junior at Waukesha South High School . She is the vice president of Unity Club and is involved in Student Council. During her free time she enjoys watching TV, dancing, chatting on line, and attending seminars. Her favorite sport is Basketball.

Jasmine Essuman

Jasmine is currently a sophomore at Nicolet High School . She has previously been involved in a group called Sisters United, an organization that works to demonstrate positive events by teenage girls. Right now, she is an avid participant of the Mock Trial team at her school. Jasmine enjoys to read, write, dance, shop, and play video games.

Davita Flowers-Shanklin (Advisor)

Davita was a Tour facilitator in 2003-04 and since then became an advisor. She is a senior at Milwaukee High School of the Arts and is involved in the swim and track team and is also a lifeguard. Outside of school she is involved in numerous organizations such as, Urban Underground, United to end Racism (UER), Re-evaluation Counseling. Davita is also the Co-director of Camp "Everytown." Davita enjoys traveling, going to the movies, hanging out at coffee shops, outdoor activities, visiting museums, playing, painting, drawing, listening to music, dancing and hanging out with friends.

Jason Hargis (Advisor)

Jason was a Tour facilitator in 2001-02 and has been actively involved in the training subsequent classes and advises the production of the “Tunnel of Oppression”. He has a commitment to social and community justice and is the recipient of the and also volunteers with the Urban Underground, Inc., a Milwaukee-based youth leadership organization.

Marisa Hernández

Marisa is a junior with a creative writing/ Journalism major and part of the school paper of Milwaukee High School of the Arts. She is also on the yearbook staff, as well as involved with many school productions, including "Ragtime." She is also part of the Student Activist and Empowerment and is looking forward to being a cross-country manager next year. Along with "the other america tour" she is also a graduate of Camp "Everytown." During her free time Marisa loves to be with her friends and spend time with family. But, what she loves most is having dance parties…especially with Sa.

Alyssa Kutil (Advisor)

Alyssa is co-president of the Gay Straight Alliance Club at her school Pius XI High School. AS a senior she is also the president of Jumpy's Finclub and participates in the art club. Alyssa was a Tour facilitator in 2003-04 and since then has become and advisor and facilitator of the Continuing Tour Education . She enjoys dance parties in her free time and she will be attending Antioch College in the fall.

Naomi Lerman (Advisor)

Naomi was a Tour facilitator in 2003-04, since then she has become an advisor of the tour. She is currently a senior at Milwaukee High School of the Arts. She is actively involved in the Student Active and Empowerment Club, Workshop jazz combo and the planning of the Re-jazz New Orleans benefit concert. Outside of school she is also involved in organizations such as Urban Underground, Bucketworks, Urban Ecology Center Earthwatch, Young Judea, and Peace Now. She enjoys all forms of music and art, and therefore dedicates most of her time to playing the guitar, dulcimer, mandolin, piano and harmonica. She also likes to play around with stencil art, and is intrigued in debates or conversation with strangers, loves riding her bike, baking vegan cookies and explore the un explored.

Brittney Long

Brittney is a sophmore at South Division High School . She is currently involved in SDC Youth Advisory Board. She is also involved in MSOE Upward and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She is also part of the JV Softball team at her school. Brittney enjoys listening to music and dance.

Ian Michael

Ian is a junior at homestead High School. The extra-curricular activities he is part of within his school are STAND club and Gay-Straight-Alliance. Organizations he is part of outside of school include the ACLU of Wisconsin and Assorted Activist Groups. In his free time he enjoys playing the guitar, hanging out with friends, meeting new people and music.

Maggie Piery (Advisor)

Maggie Piery is a junior at South Milwaukee High School . She is involved within her school in band, soccer, pom-poms, and brass ensemble. Outside of school she spends time in her church as an alter server and choir. During her free time she likes to hang out with friends, jog, dance, and listen to music.

Ebony Taylor (Advisor)

Ebony is a senior at the University School of Milwaukee High School. Within her school she is involved in Beyond a diversity group, S.T.A.R.S. a community service club, Film Club, Madam C.J. Walker Investment Club, Volleyball, Dance team, and is the founder and is president of the Accounting Club. During her free time she likes to dance, go to the movies, spend time with friends and shoe shopping. In the future she plans to become either an International Accountant or Public Relations Representative.
