ACLU of Wisconsin Opposes Green Bay Plan To Impose Immigration-Related Regulations on Business

Milwaukee - The Green Bay City Council should reject an ill-conceived proposal that will penalize local businesses and discriminate against workers under the guise of immigration reform, the ACLU of Wisconsin has urged in a letter to city officials. Green Bay can not reform the nation’s immigration laws, even if the U.S. Congress and President Bush are slow to act. The U.S. Constitution does not allow local governments to create their own immigration laws.
That’s the position of the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin – and of many concerned citizens in the Green Bay area, who also fear that this type of law could lead to discrimination against people who might appear foreign regardless of their true immigration status. continued... click for a full copy of the Press Release in .pdf and the Letter to City officials.
