Chippewa Valley Chapter
The Chippewa
Valley Civil Liberties Union (CVCLU), a chapter of the ACLU of Wisconsin,
seeks to defend the rights of free speech, free press, free assembly,
free exercise of religion, and other civil rights as guaranteed in the
U.S. Constitution. It offers educational opportunities to the public about
their rights, investigate alleged violations of rights, and try to influence
governmental authorities to protect the rights of citizens.

A provocative speaker deeply committed to American rights, equality and freedom, Anthony Romero is the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union and is the first Latino and openly gay man to serve in that capacity. Under Romero’s leadership, the ACLU has gained court victories on the Patriot Act and filed landmark litigation on the torture and abuse of detainees in U.S. custody.
Most recently, the ACLU successfully challenged the Bush administration’s illegal spying program and has been able to expand its litigation, lobbying and public education efforts, including new initiatives focused on racial justice, religious freedom, privacy, reproductive freedom and lesbian and gay rights.
