Communications Director

 

Finance and Administration Manager 

In response to both new and old attacks on civil rights and civil liberties, the ACLU of Wisconsin is growing. We need a Finance and Administration manager to track that growth and help us to make it sustainable. Working closely with the organization’s executive and development staff, the Finance and Administration manager will play a leadership role and will help staff, Board members, and volunteers work effectively in a strategic manner.  
 
Job Context
This is a part-time (20 hours per week), regular exempt position. While reporting directly and frequently to the Deputy Director and demanding some evening and weekend hours, this position has a great deal of flexibility in terms of work schedule and autonomy. The Finance and Administration manager must have solid writing skills, for communicating financial information to senior staff and Board members, and have strong experience with budgeting and accounting procedures.  The position is based in Milwaukee and may require some travel statewide.  
 
Primary Tasks & Responsibilities
Responsible for oversight of the administration and finances of the ACLU of Wisconsin. 
1. Oversee strategic planning and coordination of annual workplans.
2. Coordinate annual budgeting activities.
3. Review employee benefits (such as health insurance) annually as part of the budgeting process.
4. Coordinate financial reporting with auditors, reconcile books monthly, provide reports to Board Treasurer, and staffing the Finance, Audit, and Budget Committee.
5. Work with ACLU national office in New York on issues unique to ACLU finances.
6. Responsible for working on annual audit and IRS form 990 with audit agency, and providing results to Board of Directors and various committees.
7. Attendance and support at Board meetings, held 10:30am–2:30pm on six Saturdays per year.
8. Coordinate technology purchasing and contracts with technology support services and other vendors.
9. Engage in troubleshooting any overall problems as needed.
 
Job Requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree is necessary to demonstrate a basic level of skills in such areas as budgeting, accounting, and personnel management, but a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience is preferred.  Educational background in nonprofit management or business is a benefit.   To qualify for this position, an individual needs previous financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
 
Knowledge 
· Knowledge of nonprofit planning, budgeting, human resources, and evaluation.
· Demonstrated facility and experience with fiscal management, budgeting, strategic planning, familiarity with nonprofit financial reports, including reports generated in Quickbooks.
 
Skills and Qualifications
· Excellent written, research, analytic and interpersonal and verbal skills. 
· Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Excel and the ability to learn new programs.
· Ability to work independently with attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects under deadline.
· Supervision experience with volunteers, interns or employees.
· Ability to work closely with diverse groups and individuals.
· Ability to comply with employment policies, including the ACLU of Wisconsin’s employee handbook and organizational policies.
· A commitment to the mission of the ACLU and the advancement of social justice.
 
Compensation
Compensation for this part-time, salaried position will start at $20,000 per year. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave, medical and dental coverage for staff members, life insurance, short and long term disability insurance and an optional 401 (K).
